New Mexico botanist David Salman said he was on a seed hunting trip near Roswell when he noticed a faint glow coming from what appeared to be a meteor crater. He said it turned out the light was coming from a small patch of carnivorous cacti. According to Salman the cactus eats bugs, glows and probably came to earth on a meteor. He took some samples to see if he could identify them. So far no one has.
Luckily it appears the cacti are too small to be a threat to humans.
(UPDATE October 18, 2016: Decided to check up on this one after a few years. Still no details on the cactus. I wasn’t able to find any information about the David Salman mentioned in the news story either. If you ask me someone at Area 51 took notice.)
